Service to Outwit - Scheme Of Work
Students should be able to start a range of games with a basic underarm serve and students should understand rules regarding the scoring of points, rotation of points and service positions throughout the games. The students are to be constantly asked and tested on their knowledge and understanding of how to outwit opponents from their own serves; evaluate performances; analyse strengths and weaknesses of each serve; whilst developing, adapting and refining skills, strategies and tactics to produce high levels of performances following a serve and high quality service techniques. As they progress through the scheme they should enhance their own knowledge and understanding of the rules relating to serving, scoring points on serve, and the service areas. As they progress into the flick and punch serve the students should also start to think about the returning the service and attacking the net from a serve. As they develop their range of service techniques the students will aim to constantly outwit their opponents using a range of spin, slice, deception, speed and power from their serve to intricate advance strategic and tactical plays.
The students will then be able to increase in accuracy with more purposeful direction to gain ascendancy in rallies and enable them to start to outwit opponents. The strengths and weaknesses of player’s techniques and positional play from the service should be analysed and described by students and this information should be used as constructive feedback for performers. The students should be able to use advanced tactics and strategies to outwit opponents and gain ascendancy in both singles and doubles competitive games from the service.
